Blogshot: Gonadotrophins to induce ovulation in women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)
PCOS can cause subfertility due to chronic anovulation. Clomiphene citrate tablets are often used to trigger ovulation. However, if women do not conceive on clomiphene, they can either continue with the tablets or switch to gonadotrophins, which are injectable drugs. The updated Cochrane review compared the effectiveness and safety of different gonadotrophins. The evidence suggests there may be little or no difference in live birth and multiple pregnancy rate between urinary-derived gonadotrophins and recombinant follicle-stimulating hormone.
