The CGF's scope falls under the following broad headings:
Topics related to gynaecology
- Disorders of menstrual cycling/oligo-amenorrhoea including polycystic ovary syndrome
- Pelvic pain including endometriosis
- Heavy menstrual bleeding
- Climacteric/menopause
- Premenstrual syndrome
- Gynaecological surgery including prolapse
Topics related to fertility
- Evaluation of measures aimed at the prevention of subfertility
- Evaluation of diagnostic techniques in the investigation or assessment of the subfertile couple
- Evaluation of subfertility treatments relating to the female partner
- Evaluation of subfertility treatments relating to the male partner
Specifically, the CGF carries out extensive searches for all relevant randomised controlled trials (RCTs) both published and unpublished; scrutinises each trial for its relevance and quality; critically appraises trials; draws conclusions based on pooling data about how their net result should be applied in healthcare; and produces structured reports (systematic reviews) for widespread dissemination to health care providers and planners, and to consumers.
We have established a database of randomised controlled trials and prepare and maintain systematic reviews of interventions for women with menstrual disorders and subfertile couples. These reviews aim to establish the value of preventive, diagnostic (in terms of practice patterns and patient outcomes), or therapeutic health interventions for women with menstrual disorders and for subfertile couples.
